Do you have a website? Posting links to one's own site.

I've been thinking lately about how some members have websites and we don't even know it because they are so respectful of the User Agreement (for which I and everyone else are grateful).

I am lucky because AngAk mentions mine all the time. ;o) lol

But I was thinking that if a regular member here has a site, we'd all like to know about it. Remember when we were all amazed to find out that Judi had that site with all her lovely pottery?

How would you guys feel about allowing people with a website to post a link to their site in the "Who Are You" section? The 50-post minimum would still be a requirement to post a link, to prevent anyone posting there just to post a link never to be heard from again.

I actually thought this has always been in the User Agreement, but I just checked it, and it's not. I've had a link to my site up there since the beginning, which puts *ME* in violation of the User Agreement, and thus I should be banned, and all my posts deleted!

(I've removed the link, btw, just in case everyone decides that I should be pardoned on good behavior).

I think the 50-post minimum would work out any concerns that might arise

with people's motivations for posting their own website links. Maybe even 100 might be reasonable. Of course, if people become well-known without the 100 posts, they could always just 'state' how to get to a website without actually posting the link and therefore, violating nothing (unless the wording in the Agreement is rather vague but all-encompassing).

I think that by the time we 'know' people well here, being introduced to their websites just adds to the postive experience of this community and the depth of the relationships.

I can be so obtuse, however. Just slap me if you don't know what the heck I'm saying

Ut-oh. I'm so sorry...I totally just broke the rule.

Mimi, up at 8687, I threw in a link to my blog...definitely not for self-promotion purposes but because there was a request for a recipe, and I had a discussion about it on my blog. Also:

a. there's a photo of the dish

b. the recipe is there too and I was too lazy to go look it up somewhere else

c. there's links to others who have tried the recipe on the blog post...and as far as I know, no one else here at FK has tried that recipe. (In case she'd like an opinion other than mine.)

It was totally innocent and definitely not for self-promotional purposes. Feel free to take it down.

I'm so sorry.

No, you actually didn't break the rule!

From the UA:

"The only possible exception to the advertising rules is if you are an established member of the community (over 50 posts) and someone, unprompted by you, asks a question regarding a product or service that you happen to provide. Then you may honestly respond to the question with a discreet link to your website or other information."

What you did falls within that category and is allowed.)

I like the idea: The "Who Are You" section seems like the right place, and I assume we can still

post a link in the forum if someone requests it.
