Does anyone else here forage? We got this Miner's Lettuce, a spring treat here.

I have foraged for blackberries when traveling in our RV. Every spring I see folks looking

and walking in a small ditch area at the first stop sign out of our neighborhood. I've wondered what they are doing there. Must be some sort of plant that likes water because it is a runoff ditch.

We have wood sorrel, plantain...

and some wild mustard. The latter one has a look and taste very similar to broccoli raab.

The farm where we had a CSA share was big into foraging and encouraged customers to go out into the fields to look for wild edibles. They would carefully review the items picked before you left the farm.
No charge for foraged stuff, as we were helping with "weeding".

We also find raspberries and blackberries along the bike trail. This time of year, we might also find fiddleheads as the trail runs along some wetlands.

We get the fruit from prickly pear cactus and mesquite tree seed pods.

When we lived in San Diego, we used to see people with burlap sacks harvesting wild greens from the hillsides and canyons in the city.

My Eritrean neighbors actually grow and harvest dandelions for salads. They give me few bunches every now and then.

Thanks for the info. None grow around here but we>>

are off to Grand Canyon in a couple of weeks, so I will keep a look out.

We have morels but this year we barely got a mess compared to up to 900 one year.

We also have plantain, dandelions, chickweed, purslane, sassafras trees, persimmon, black walnut, pawpaw (not big enough to produce fruits yet). DD loves picking some of the greens for her salads and plantain for it's healing properties. I plan on making some file powder this year from the sassafras leaves and even though it is not advised, I want to make some real root beer from the roots and bark. We have almost 6 acres and I am trying to learn more from this guy that is the master of foraging around here. I am also getting some ramps to plant and see if I can get some growing here. Also trying to learn more about what fungi are edible.
