Does anyone grow tomatillos? I'm wondering if they are far better than the canned version. I have

a bit of room in my garden and I've grown them before (like weeds) but it was so long ago. I've never bought canned but wouldn't recall how good the originals are anyway.

I've never grown them but fresh are much, much better than canned. I think canned are

o.k. for some salsas though. I do buy La Costena green salsa in the bottle and then dress it up a lot for pork in green chile. I saute onions, garlic & jalapeno in oil, then add about a half bottle and simmer.

We can get fresh ones year-round here. I've used canned, but only if...

...I'm going to puree them for a smooth sauce.

The fresh ones are so good -especially if you char them in the oven before putting them in salsa, chunky sauces, etc.

I tried growning, they flower with hundreds of blossoms

but take before I can harvest any. I learned I was watering them too much. They get huge and take up a ton of water and room. I can get them all year long at our market, so I don't bother anymore.

I tried peaches.... the squirrels have gotten them every single year before I can taste them!
