I love Laura Calder's foolproof recipe for savarin. You can "soak" it a day ahead. You could
probably freeze the unsoaked cake, but since it keeps well once it's sponged up all the booze, it may not be worth it.
If your daughter is a "local, seasonal" believer, I don't know what you could sub for strawberries at this time of year. Chopped candied orange peel might work in the cream. Or an orangy (not lemon) curd folded in.
