Does anyone have any idea why this blend of Penzey's peppercorns is so expensive?

When I started buying them years ago, they were 19.99 for the jar. Now they are just under 40.00! I love the color in my salads and the mix they use, but this is outrageous. I checked Spice House and they have a 7 ounce refill (which is the size of my Penzey's bottle) for a little over 16.00 The only difference I can see is Penzey's has Tellicherry black peppercorns and Spice house uses Malabar.

Penzey's comes in the glass jar, and Spice House a bag. I asked Penzey's one time, if they could ship in a bag and they said no, because the peppercorns would all break. Does anyone get peppercorns from Spice House and how well are they packed?

Oops, sorry, I was looking at Savory Spice Shop not The Spice House, will look there too.

I just looked at all the peppercorns at Penzey's and . . .

The Pink Reunion ($5.45 for *.5* oz.) looks to be the kicker here. That's $5.45 for *half" an ounce.

As for them not coming in a bag, perhaps they had too many complaints about all the shells from the Pink Peppercorns breaking and sifting down to the bottom of the bag. After all, they would not be Pink Peppercorns unless they had the little pink shell around them; if the shells are all broken off, you might as well (visually speaking) be selling regular peppercorns of some sort with pink shelly stuff in the bottom of the bag.

I would think that a properly packed jar of appropriate size would protect the items in side from shifting too much and breaking.
