Does anyone know how to clean old Eckoloy Silver Beauty bread pans?

I picked up a couple at the thrift store after realizing most of the banana bread recipes I read referenced 8" x 4" pans, while mine are all 9 5/8" x 5" (standard bread size pans, I believe).

These look pretty crappy, although not rusty. I'll give them a good scrubbing, but wondered if anyone knew how to clean it better.

Usually there is a buildup of grease and such in the corners. Use a good detergent . . .

. . . like Dawn, or something that de-greases really well. I have used a degreasing product from a hardware store, supposedly very strong, that smelled just like Formula 409.

Dry well and I would advise finish-drying in the oven with a pilot light OR heat the oven for 10 minutes, turn it off and put your pans in. If you see some rust pop up, scrub the rust out, hand dry, finish dry in the oven and if need be grease the formerly rusted areas lightly, rub in and lightly wipe off excess before storage.

I love old baking pans. They are usually pretty heavy-duty and bake well.

Vinegar and baking soda? Goof Off? Heat filled w/Dawn?

I don't know if I would use oven cleaner on something so precious but I bet it would work. Last time I had built on crud, I gently scored/scraped with a knife tip. Probably not the best method but it worked. Colleen
