Does anyone know why the Food Network is running marathon competition shows and

no longer has Barefoot Contessa, Giada de Laurentis or Pioneer Woman among others? All I am getting on Dish is marathon Guy F and competition shows all day long.

Because it is an entertainment channel that features people playing with their food.

Being a learning channel about how to cook flew out the door years ago.

My son works for Food Network.....

He works the baking championship shows and he asked the producer why so many competition shows and she said they're putting a bunch on and they will see what sticks and what doesn't.

FWIW, in my community in No CA and my foodie friends are all complaining about it

we all love Ina Garten (Barefoot Contessa) and like Giada at Home, and Pioneer Women all for various reasons. Guy F. and his DDD shows drive us all nuts, no one seems to like him and we certainly do not like the marathon run of shows. The consensus is, that even though we are all seasoned home cooks, we are still wanting to learn food science, new methods, and new techniques. Besides the shows I mentioned are fun, you get to know your characters, their family and you like to keep up with them. Today, finally they ran one show with Ina Garten - it was 10 years old. Sad.

There is a lot of chatter on the Web about the change in programming....I hope Food Network is listening. They used to have such great programming, with Sara Moulton, and other real chefs who teach...not the case anymore.
Just the chatter and observation from my side of the world. smileys/smile.gif

Then that is who isn't carrying it. FoodNetwork on Time Warner, for example,

carries Giada, etc. but also a LOT of Guy F., etc. Not sure. BUT the Food tv is not what it once was, by any means.

I like those three, along with Alton Brown. I'm a second-class citizen because I don't have cable,

...so I only see it when I'm on the treadmill at the gym or visiting my FIL in San Diego.

Since I only see it sporadically, I actually LIKE DD&D. I enjoy seeing what mom and pop restaurants and bars come up with.

NEVER watch those annoying competitions. They got old REAL FAST.

Plus, when I travel for business, I always check DD&D, along with Yelp and Chow Hound...

...so I can get something interesting to eat without busting my budget.

Works for me.

We have been sorely disappointed with most of the DD&D spots we tried. The

only one that really met our expectations is a Pittsburgh transplant in Jacksonville.

Metro Diner in the San Marco area of Jacksonville. I think they now have a few sites. Only open for breakfast and lunch.

Finally! Someone in Florida who knows how to make homefries like home. And you can always say you had a "salad" for lunch when you've actually had a PITTSBURGH STEAK SALAD, which includes steak, French fries, cheese, croutons, salad dressing...and some zero calorie lettuce.

You know...so technically it's a salad!

Yes, the food part of it is fun and you can actually get the recipes online for them but what gets

old very fast is Guy F.

The places here they have done are really good. And the Colonnade in Atlanta

was good. I'm sure for the number they have done, there are misses. I don't seek out the show but watch and enjoy watching the food being made. Often really looks terrific.

I used to like The Chew, but feel now that it is so over produced. Don't need any..

inane games; don't need any Clinton's Corner; don't need all the guests promoting things.

Agree! I used to really enjoy the chew, but it has now become too silly. Whats with the games?

I like their chemistry, and appreciate their backgrounds, and really like how they are humbled to accept and give each other feedback on their recipe. BUT, it has gotten silly.

I don't normally watch Food Network, but now that you have pointed out the competition shows, it is

on my brain when we channel surf. You are so right!!! It is non stop!! What is with "Triple D's" ? Dh and I were sad when we saw lil kids cooking and being "chopped" ?
