Does anyone put their finest crystal (if it has metal) in the dishwasher? I've been putting mine in

lately and noticed today one glass is losing it's platinum ring. I have no clue when it happened, maybe a heavy duty washing...but now I'm wondering if I'm going to have to wash them in the sink along with the vitamix container and the food processor (plastics)....

comments welcome

Never! They are too valuable these days to put into a dishwasher

and even more so if it has platinum...which you will lose eventually to the dishwasher.

Never either. I do put in plain crystal (without metal), carefully - sometimes I put washclothes

in between so that they do not clink together and chip. Talk about valuable - have you priced
Waterford lately.

I put in sterling flatware occaionaly and found they pitted so I wash them by hand. I have sevice for 18 and neither of my girls want them. Too much trouble and they say stainless is so nice. Ugh - gone are the good old days.

I never do, and wouldn't put anything with a gold or other painted rim

in there. I hand wash anything glued (such as the bone-handled steak knives). I hand wash my sterling flatware, and store it separately from stainless steel.

keep doing your sterling and your crystal by hand, I've found that "the girls" change their minds as

they age....the boys too. I do think I will sell my china though, it has a gold band and can't go in the dishwasher. I never use it because of that and neither will my children. Too much to wash after a dinner party.

I don't have any good china or crystal, but I wouldn't put it in the dishwater.

My mother has a Wedgwood china set with a platinum edge and it has worn off over the years because she puts it in the dishwasher. I've pointed this out, but she doesn't care.

I never bought any china because I will inherit three sets of Wedgwood: two from my mother and one from my MIL. We'll be drowning in china!

I worked for a china manufacturer and the rule was you can

use dishwasher to wash, but NEVER let any metal trimmed china or crystal go through the dry cycle, the high heat is what does it in.

The Miele dishwashers use only cold water in the "fine crystal" cycle and have no heated dry

I usually remove before heat but sometimes don't make it. Wish I knew this before. Thankfully only 1

glass was damaged and it can be replaced if I need to.

Thank you MoJ
