Does anyone want this hand grinder?

I decided to relive my childhood Christmas memories of grinding nuts for an infinite number of nutrolls, thumbprints, etc and picked this up at a thrift store.

It works but I just got a grinder attachment for my KitchenAid and am seriously trying to clear out extra kitchen tools.

There is a bit of rust on the parts, but I found no problem with nut grinding. Haven't used the nut-butter attachment, but all the parts are there.

This isn't my ebay link, by the way. I just wanted a quick photo of the parts.

No charge...would just like to recycle to a good home.

I think the grinder is called a Universal #2.

Oh ... my parents used that every Fall and to grind meat. It took them hours. One time, they saw

me throw everything into the Cuisinart wathcing as their hours of work were equated with one pulse. I'll never forget the looks on their faces.

I actually felt bad for their having seen how simple work is now.

I think I have that thing in storage somewhere. Ah, the old days.

This is exactly like the one my mother used for years. She would

attach it to the side of the "pantry" counter. I ground many pounds of meat for her. Back then, I thought it was fun to use.

I still have mine and use it to stuff sausage AFTER I grind the meat

in my food processor. It works fine and is easier to control than an electric one which I did have but discarded. would not give this one up.

I have a couple of these! I use them regularly for jams, relishes and the likel . . .

They work well and are nice for jobs around the kitchen.

I like it because it DOES take a while to do whatever I have to do.

I figure this is a form of upperbody exercise that I know I am lacking and so I grind away.

This is the same "food chopper" that caused all the flack before with the "she who knows all"......

I still use it for relish making and often for chopping raw quahogs for stuffed clams. It is rarely used in my kitchen, but when you need it, you need it. Mine is vintage too.

I know what you mean, Janet. I use mine (vintage, from my Mom) to make chili...

...because the coarse grind "blade" (which is really just a plate with larger holes in it) seems to make just the right strange grind of chuck for homemade chili.

I like it better than the food processor for that.

I also have one....

complete with all the different plates.
I'd be interested in knowing if anyone has used the nut-butter plate, and how well it works.
Mine also has a bread crumb plate.
I use mine for grindimg veggies for relish. I gets messy though, so we tend to attach it to our patio table and let the juice drip onto the deck!
Mine has been in the family for at least 90 years, perhaps longer. It was something my grandmother had from early in her married life. (1910-ish)

Me too!

Judy, my grandma did the same thing. She attached it to the picnic table in the backyard to make her two relishes that she canned: hot green tomato and chili sauce. Buckets of the produce were carried from the adjacent garden, hosed off, stacked on the table and I sat there turning the handle as grandma kept everything running smoothly.
