Dog Days Cocktail

In a cocktail shaker add: 1/2 lemon, 1/2 ripe pitted peach (check!), and 6 spearmint leaves with 1/2 oz. of Bootblack's Tradiitonal Old Fashioned Syrup.

Muddle the fruit and mint thoroughly to juice the lemon, release the lemon oil in the peel, and puree the ripe peach.

Add 2 oz. of nice quality Bourbon (I used Woodford Reserve), 1/2 oz. of Cointreau, and 5 drops of peach bitters. Fill the shaker with crushed ice and shake that cocktail for at least 30 seconds until ice cold. Pop the top, cover the opening with the 4-prong spring cocktail strainer (it's too pulpy to go through the shaker lid strainer), and pour over a double rocks glass filled with crushed ice. Garnish with a sprig of spearmint a la Mint Julep style.

Bootblack's Traditional Old Fashioned Syrup.

I saw an advertisement for this craft bar syrup and I had to try it. It contains: sugar, dried tart cherries, molasses, orange peel, gentian root, allspice, black peppercorns, clove, cardamom, coffee beans, and star anise.
