Don't shoot me for over-posting. :) What exactly makes something oven proof?

I have a very cute set of colored stackable cups I got from World Plus Market. They're marked Dishwasher and Microwave Safe (at least I think so.... it's small print and I haven't yet conceded to the aging eyes thing) but not Oven Safe. I have decided to make a Brie, Bacon, and Kale Soup with a puff pastry cap for the first soup of the season, but they'll need to go in the oven for 20 minutes or so to bake the crust. Do they need to specifically SAY oven safe?

I think, unfortunately, you will ruin your soup / oven / cups. Soup sounds wonderful, but I would

definitely recommend a bowl that is "oven safe"... Maybe ramekins if you have any? I think you could crack the cups in the oven.

Carianna, get yourself a good magnifying glass to keep in your kitchen

Even with glasses, the small print these days is so small, and my vision is corrected to 20/20. The magnifying glass saves my butt many times.

I think that at the temp you need for puff pastry, it may not be wise. The little ones I have

specify oven, stovetop, freezer, nuker, all that.

Imagine ruining that beautiful soup as well. Sounds good to me.

Bake the caps separately to top soup in your pretty bowls

Also a good idea because you top each bowl before you serve - less soggy. I store baked puff pastry caps in my freezer to top all kinds of things at serving, from savory to sweet. They can be toasted up with a sprinkle of parm or sugar and cinnamon on their tops. Colleen

Agree. This is the best idea. I ruined a hand-made shallow bowl from an artist in Canada

by attempting to bake a peach cobbler in it. I assumed (making an A$$ out of U and Me) that because the piece had originally been fired in an 1800 degree kiln, it could handle a 350 degree oven.

oh no. Big crack right across the bottom. That bowl will never be a true bowl again.

Our resident pottery artist Judy_mass explained that I should have put it in a cold oven and brought the entire thing up to heat...not put it directly into a preheated oven as I did.

Damn.
