Easter dessert: Chocolate Mousse Nests. They're on our menu.

Never seen the special pastry for sale... but

I bet it would work with chocolate shells made with balloons - you explode the balloons after,, leaving a nice shell to fill with the mousse

(not that I would be trying it, but love the thought of it)

You could make it with phyllo sheets themselves in muffin tins

or if that shredded pastry for isn't sale, you can shred phyllo sheets and make it. OR if you have a mom 'n pop's Greek restaurant, ask if they will sell you some. ;o)

This is Manhattan KS, not NY smileys/wink.gif (more)

I had a good laugh with the mom and pop Greek restaurant... fat chance smileys/wink.gif

we have one Indian restaurant, two Japanese (not that good), a few Italians that are not that great

which is not a big problem, since we prefer to eat at home anyway = but it would be nice to have some of that Greek pastry just to see what it's all about

I'm wrong about Kataifa being just shredded phyllo dough--it is actually spun in

some way. But I do think you could shred phyllo dough and make a nice cup for a dessert. ;o)
BUT you might be surprised even in Kansas--a lot of "diner" type restos are really run by Greek families. Here there are a TON--wonderful Greek community (have the North American Greek Orthodox church HQ).

I took my own little walk through retro-land.....

made two individual Baked Alaska

they turned out better than I expected - one dulce de leche, one white chocolate raspberry truffle

made the cake base last night, did the assembly and meringue today. Not that hard, and pretty nice for a dinner party for 4 or 6 people.... Torching makes it fun

The mousse filled nests were fun to serve and looked just like the photo.

The kataifi was messy to work with but perhaps that was due to my inexperience. My muffin tin had small cups and produced 12 nests. Next time I'd use an 8 cup tin which I'll have to purchase.
