Does anyone know (or can you point me to) a way to recover files that I have accidentally deleted? And I already emptied my recycle bin. They are photos, if that matters; software used was Kodak Easy Share. Using internet explorer ME.

Thanks.(

I had a flash drive crash last spring--All my Finer Kitchens and Epi recipes!!!!!!!!

anyway, check out MiMi's and see the cost, there was a difference. And, then search under "data recovery systems".
You will have to send your device or hard drive and they will return it or destroy it. I thought my company was called Data Recovery---, but tossed all the records. They did a fine job.
Don't worry, (or maybe we should), they can recover anything.
Did you see the thing on cell phones last week on the news?
Oh I forgot, that flash drive also had many, many recipes in friends handwriting from many years ago and ones I had cut out of newspapers and magazines and scanned. Was worth the 200+or- can't remeber, but worth it!!

Thanks - but does anyone know if these types of programs have to be installed BEFORE the accident?

You e-mail them with the problem and then probably speak with them on the phone...

you tell them what happened and what you need back--any or all-- and they tell you what they can do. You send the device to them, if they cannot recover you have the choice of getting it back or destroyed. They will send it to you on CD to download or send it on a file to download.
Check with MiMi's link, I don't know. But these guys were great, Got my recipes back!!

If you live in or near a major city, they may have a data recovery there and you can check with them.

And then I guess, back up, back up, back up, everything on my hard drive that is important is now on CD an d flash drive

Dawn, I could be wrong but I'm sure you just install them. Here's why...

When you delete a file in Windows, it doesn't actually get deleted from your hard drive. It just gets marked so that it doesn't show up in your file lists and so that Windows can overwrite it when it needs more space. (So don't save anything new on your drive until you recover these files, you might overwrite them). So you install one of these programs and they scan your disk for the files that are marked for deletion.

And regarding your response to Nan, you're right, you don't have to send it anywhere, just download the software for free, try it to see if you like it, and usually to actually recover the files you have to pay for it. So the free version might show you the files that got deleted without actually being able to un-delete them, then when you pay for it you'll be able to un-delete them.

I hope this helps you some. I have been hearing about these things for years, with good results, but without ever needing to try one. I would certainly try this before I ripped out my hard drive and sent it to someone. I would only do that as a last resort. You'd be several days without a computer, waiting to ship it to them and for them to ship it back.

OhMyGosh--deleted--I reread MiMi'd post--one crash, one time, you're never the same, Sorry!!!!!

Having said that, I might add...

that it's possible you might pay for one of these softwares and have it not work. They have good results but aren't 100%. If you send away your hard drive to a data recovery company they probably offer a guarantee.

oops...

With searching comes loss
and the presence of absence:
"My Novel" not found.

Dawn, check the properties for another photo from the same time range as the deleted one. Then

do a search on your entire computer with the file name, putting an * in place of the last 2 numeric digits. It should find most of the .jpg files.

I hate how Kodak does their photos. They suck them into EasyShare, but then it appears that if you copy them to another album (looks like you have multiple copies of the same photo in different albums) and you delete ONE of the albums, it deletes all instances of the photos. I think/hope those are just pointers in Easy Share and the originals may still be on your drive.

Good luck.

Dawn, one more thing to try:

I e-mailed this thread to DH, and his response was:

I have not used this utility but it should do the job. Download from this page->

http://pcworld.com/downloads/file/fid,23108-order,1-page,1-c,filemanagement/description.html

Be sure to tell the person to do as little as possible on the PC. Do not reboot, open other programs, etc. except to recover the files. Download this utility and follow the directions. With luck, most if not all of the deleted files con be recovered.

Thanks! We were about to...

order "Digital Photo Recovery" - you can download it for a small fee, or order a CD. I'll let you know how it goes.

Thanks Marilyn. Yes, it is not the easiest photo software to use...

But I unfortunatley deleted them, all over my computer. But lucklily, I think we can get them back using the software below. I'll let you all know how it turns out.

Kinda scarey, though... if *I* can recover stuff I deleted, maybe someone else can too, when we get rid of this computer. There is this program called "Bleach" (from who, I can't remember right now) that PERManently destroys things though.

I am happy to say it worked just fine. I was surprised that it...

worked so well. Thanks for all of your suggestions.
