Erin-do you have a family recipe for Haluski?

I've been thinking about it and am going to attempt something tonight. But then I thought you probably have a delicious recipe for it.

Holy moly. . . I just got lost in a haluski wonderland. . .

just spent an hour or two looking up haluski recipes, and boy do I have a bunch of them.

Gonna make some this weekend, I hope!

Sure do. This stuff is addictive...

I made a batch anyway and this is what I did (from memory of eating it in Czechia, which was served with wonderful grilled ham):

Sautéed onions in butter until beginning to brown.
Added chopped cabbage, green peppers, garlic, and mushrooms. A sprinkle of caraway seed. Stir. Cover.
Meanwhile, boil pasta in just enough beef stock to cover it.
Stir cabbage and onions to prevent burning on bottom.
Thicken pasta broth with potato starch to make gravy.
Pour pasta and gravy over the cabbage. Stir.

I served this with grilled steaks. Leftovers were even better for lunch!

I would love to see other T&T versions!

My grandmother made it with some bacon. Cabbage, egg noodles , onion and tons of

butter. We'd have it on Friday without meat sometimes. If there were leftovers she would brown it and add some cottage cheese.

You're right, it's addictive!

We never had it with bacon, but always with cottage cheese. Unless it was a *black fast* day and...

then it was just noodles with onions cooked in Crisco.

(shuddering at the memory)

I probably do, but it's in Czech. smileys/irritated.gif I'll take a look this week--sorry it'll be late, though!
