Example of a link...COML

A small thing, but...

... when I click "Back" after reading a post, it goes all the way back to the top of the main page, so I have to scroll back down to post #whatever. Most boards like this go back to the point where you were reading. Any way to fix this?

Thanks,
Friday

When I hit "back" it takes me to the place I left off, but when I hit FK Recipe Swap....

Then it take sme back to the top of the forum...

Mimi, the buttons work the same for me as for Sandra, but...

would it be possible to alter the function of the the "FK Recipe Swap" button, so that while in a thread, it also takes us back to the place where we left off (on the main page)? That way, if you are in a longer thread, near the bottom of the page, you wouldn't have to find your place again. (Using "back", in this case, takes you back through all the replies in the thread, before reaching the main page.)

Not a big deal for me, but would be nice.

No actually, that's not possible...let me explain why...

When you click on "back" your browser is remembering both what page you were on earlier, and where you were on the page. It's just returning to where it was. But when you click on a link, you are asking your browser to go to a new page from where you are currently. To the browser, by clicking on a link you are making a new request to go to that page, instead of returning where you were, and it will always go to the top.

A-HA... Mimi, I'm using Firefox and Netscape, and...

... the problem only happens in those browsers. If I open the page in MS Explorer, the "Back" button returns me to the proper place on the page.

Win XP, BTW. Hope this helps!

Exclusive of Mimi of course...

On the other hand, I have found that oftentimes the intelligence of TPTB is over estimated merely because they have TP.

;o)

Life would be so much easier if all browsers were created equal...

I will do some research to see if there's anything that can be done, but if Firefox/Netscape don't offer that feature or some workaround, then it's out of my hands.

Oh my gosh I am so going to forget all the stuff I'm supposed to look into!

LOL...I'm not a PTB...

Rembember Tania and her "techs"? In this operation, I'm the "tech." You guy's haven't meant the PTB's yet. Although I've been working for them for 6 years; they're all great.

OOOHHHhhh. Dark khaki - that is what all of my unread post headings...

that is what all of my READ (mis-spoke in my heading but I can't edit that I don't think) post headings look like - they aren't black.

Is this a setting I can change? Can I "unmark" them? Resetting something in my browser window? We're getting close to computer techy terms here, and as I said before, I don't know a Beta from a Byte, so make this explanation simple! heheh Thanks.

Actually...

your unread posts are supposed to be burgundy, just a touch darker than they were at Gail's. The "read" ones are supposed to be khaki, again just a touch darker than they were at Gail's. I just made it like Gail's but with a touch more contrast. I am not sure what you are seeing or why.

What browser are you using? What version of that browser?

Mimi - I see unread posts as a thin burgandy,

"read" ones as a thin grey (khaki) - neither one of those had much contrast at all but I am sure that is my computer settings, not yours.

And whatever you were doing a minute ago cleared the contrast problem up completely!

Browser is Internet Explorer, on a Compaq EEvo computer, and ah, what else can I tell you?

Ques about Page numbering...

Mimi,

I just posted soemthing and boom it went to 2 pages, but the old page (first) page shows as page 2 not page 1. Don't know if it can be changed but it's a bit confusing.

Juz asking smileys/smile.gif

Ok, what I was trying to do was make the unread posts bold, but

What happened was that the unread new posts were red bold, and the unread old posts that you had marked as read with "Mark Read" were khaki bold. That won't do.

I have to play with it a while to figure that out but things are likely to look weird for a few minutes. If I don't figure it out I'll just put it back the way it was until next time I play with it.

I am just afraid of people panicking while I'm doing it. :eek:/

Can you explain more?

Page 1 is Page 1 for me. I can tell it's Page 1 because the 1 isn't a clickable link and the 2 is. What are you seeing that makes you think that page 1 shows as page 2?
