This is an article about fermentation, and all it implies! Fermenting can be bad--or good!
And don't forget them stinky cheeses, Hákarl (Icelandic fermented, rotten shark; check it out at Wikipedia), ancient Roman "Liquamen" and all that other stuff, edible, smelly and nasty seeming stuff. Also make sure to check out the "See Also" links at the bottom of the Hákarl entry page!
I remember in one of the "Ringworld" novels by Larry Niven: the main character meets a group of people who are vegetarians/vegans in the way they eat and when he attempts to feed them he gives them cheese, and the veg people thing they are being given rotten milk. At least I seem to remember this as being in one of the Ringworld novels. . .
