Fake News?

I read the other day (probably on FB), that saving raw onions that were only partially used was a serious health hazard. I always save unused parts of onions and have had no obvious adverse effects. But right now I have 2 halved onions in my fridge and I'm wondering. Have I just been lucky all these years?

I have been cooking since I was eleven years old and always saved onions by

putting wax paper around them years ago, and now, I use a baggie or tear off a piece of food grade plastic wrap, and put in the fridge. If I leave the onion in there a long time, I noticed that some onions turn green in the center heart, I remove that and chop up the rest.

Thanks

I hated the idea of throwing away the onions just because I overestimated the amount I needed.
