last year even early would have had big crowds. People were masked and trying to observe distance.

We didn't tarry--freestone peaches--July Prince--which are a delicious peach. They also had white peaches but I'm going to make jam which yellow is better for.

Got a box of tomatoes--just the big red kind, but they do fine for roasting and tomato pie--and an OK sandwich, but got some heirlooms for the ultimate BLT.

Will share some peaches and tomatoes with friends too.

People are getting to our FM earlier this year, as well, to beat our relentless heat

and to get in line for peaches. There is one vendor who folks line up for 30 minutes early. I don't get it because three others sell peaches, as well and there are no lines. I am not about to stand in the sun for that length of time. I love the Red Haven peaches, but their season is so short. Now they have the usual big yellow peaches that are so juicy and tasty. Also a cross between a blueberry and a small plumb, that is just like candy. I buy up a sackful each week. Blackberries, raspberries are huge.
The grower which had the $9 a dozen eggs came down to $7 this week. She must have gotten complaints.

We don't get the Red Havens until later in July, IIRC.

Here the peaches change from week to week with different varieties, so yes the "season" for a particular kind is short.
The North and South Carolina season will be finished by the first or second week of August and then the peaches will come from further north. And fortunately we didn't have a freeze in the late winter early spring to take the crops!!
These peaches are like picture books--easily 3 inches in diameter and that yellow to red glow. They need a day or so to fully ripen.
