'Fession Time.....

I have to ‘fess up. I have a fetish, one that I believe some out there have too, which does not help my guilt feeling……

I went to the store yesterday to buy a small birthday gift for my Grandie. I did not have much cash on me. I did think about getting more but, really, I wasn’t intending to spend more than about $30.00 AND it was “the learning center” shop I went to, a shop with mostly toys.

I found some nice things for my Grandie BUT oh dear! OH !!dear….. I found a shelf of cook books…..I could not resist and ended up (yet AGAIN) walking out of there having bought a wee gift for my Grandie BUT also having bought over $100.00 of cook books!!!!! (on my card, darn these cards.)

I just can’t resist…..

What is worse is that these books have slightly faded covers (This happens here in the tropics and at some stores.) but more than that one of the things I so look forward to when traveling is the book stores…why, why did I have to buy some now when next month I know I will be smitten by some books I’ll just HAVE to get.

I bought a wonderful bread book, (now I’ll have to get a bread machine)

A super appetizer book and the best one is a herb and spice book.

Yes, I have just about all these recipes in the many other books I have. I also have a few herb and spice books, this one is really nice though.

Next time I must just “Smack my hand and say NO!!”

I'll post some of the recipes when I have tried them...but that is another thing....when do I even get to try any of these recipes? I have so many I am slowly working my way through that have been posted here as well as all those in my to try file....

I'm right there with you, while I was laid up this winter, spent a lot of time

going through and reading some of my beautiful cookbooks. And at the same time promising myself not to buy any more!!
Was doing pretty well till the post this week of Cat Cora's books. Hhmmmmmm
Actually joanie, I just have a book problem.

Also a small art problem? Prints that need to framed stored. And a not so small problem, carpets, tiny apartment, so have two small ones rolled up under bed and a larger one in a corner behind a door.
The last one has been easier to put the brakes on, I lugged my 60#er home from Nepal. Didn't want to wait for it, shipping from there is SLOW. It is in my living room, had the one behind the door shipped when I was it China.

But books are my vice.

There will be no discussion of kitchenware and dinnerware here!!! Please!

Nan

I agree no tableware.......collecting is fine but each one of most of these...

books I buy have some recipe in them that I can find in other recipe books. I made a pact that I would only buy books with a story as well as recipes but...NO, I am too weak-willed to follow through with my own pact!!!!
However I will never be lonely with all these books

We are on the same track about books & my carpets take me right back to were they came from!

Mea Culpa Mea Culpa Mea Maxima Culpa - Just bought 3 within the past couple of days ..>

It is a real "disease," and I can't seem to find the proper cure. I read cookbooks like novels and I can't resist especially if it is a personality I love, therefore, must buy it and enjoy.

darlings, darlings, darlings! have I taught you nothing over these years? whenever you

think you are out of control with buying cookbooks, just smile sweetly and say "I collect them"

it works every time for me smileys/wink.gif))

Randi, I am fiendishly fetish "Collector" of the written dish! ....

wish there was more time to cook everything.

DH has threatend to divorce me. Oh well, like Brad Paisley song says "I'm gonna miss her (him)..."

when I get home one of these days but cooks gotta do what a cooks gotta do.........

Oh yeah - too funny! But hey, he named his son Huckleberry...

he and his wife are just plain cute and funny and down to earth. He goes to our church - not like he's there all the time or anything but he's a member and does stuff and had our pastor come out to California when he married Kimberly.

You are so not alone! Every time I walk by a book store I have to go inside and every time

I come out I have bought a cook book or two.

Like you, I'm working my way slowly through these books. My professional life gets in the way of cooking on most weekdays and there is only so much you can cook AND eat on weekends.

And someone mentioned art!
I have this new fetish - I love finding (and buying of course) paintings by local artists in second hand shops!
I have 30 something paintings by now.

Can you tell why I needed to buy a new house? smileys/wink.gif
