I wanted to make the artichoke appetizer, but we have way too much food coming, so I thought about bringing nothing, but that just goes against my nature, so I made a big batch of this Popcorn mix and brought baggies so everyone can take some home. We will probably munch while discussing the book too. It's the JK Rowling new book, The Casual Vacancy. I have the audio version, but just got it last night and am just on disc 1. not sure if I like it, but too soon to tell. lots of sad, sad, family dynamics so far.
From a Tasty Kitchen post on Halloween Popcorn, see link
12 ounces Purple Candy Melts(I used 24 oz white)
14 cups Popped Popcorn(I doubled)
Salt
3 Tablespoons Halloween Sprinkles(omitted)
11 ounces, weight Candy Pumpkins
1 cup Green Chocolate Coated Candies
1 cup Candy Corns
(I used leftover Reeses Pieces, harvest mix candy corn/pumpkins, craisins, and roasted pistachios)
Place the candy melts in a microwave safe bowl. Cook for 30 seconds. Stir and repeat, until smooth.
Place the popcorn on a large rimmed baking sheet(roaster works well). Thoroughly salt the popcorn(lightly for me). Then pour the melted candy over the top and stir to coat. Once coated, apply the sprinkles.(I added all my add-ins right after the melted chocolate and stirred all together so they would stick)
Allow the popcorn to dry. Then break apart and toss in the candy.
Store in an airtight container until ready to serve.
my notes: Easy to make and good project with kids. can change add-ins and candy coating colors for other holidays/seasons. watch the salt----the pistachios I used were quite salty enough without salting the popcorn too much.
