Final Nanaimo Bar update: The coach from Canada said they were ...

...exactly like Momma used to make. He loved them, and was shocked that I could nail the recipe just like he remembered.

His fiance wants the recipe. He asked what the creamy layer was made of (besides sugar!). I told him I had to hunt down Bird's Custard Powder in order to make them more authentic.

I did try one. PHEW! Those suckers are SWEEEEET! Very tasty, but very rich. I really only wanted a bite or two. The teenage locusts I fathered snarfed up the rest of them. They were too sweet for my wife's taste.

I used almonds instead of walnuts, since I had them on hand. The taste reminded me of Almond Joy candy bars. Chocolate, coconut and almonds. Very good combo, if you ask me.

Thanks again for everyone's help.

What a great success story. And you're helping him get his marriage off to a better start.

He's a great guy. He has coached my son's teams from 5th grade flag football...

...all the way to freshman JV basketball. (Although my son would want me to point out that he's playing VARSITY as a freshman... not easy. OH, okay... so I don't mind pointing it out, either!)

This coach has been meeting my son and maybe one or two teammates at the school training room every morning during the week at 6:00am sharp. He gives them an hour of weight training instruction before school starts. He's very dedicated. He's a fairly young guy, too. I wanted to thank him for going the extra mile for the boys.

What a deserving recipient of your generosity. Your son is lucky to have both of you.
