Florisandy - I made the Massaman Curry you posted. It was very good but...

I was not able to find the massaman paste after looking high and low - and in between. Finally settled for a curry from the middle eastern store (NO Thai products though!), that was just called 'curry paste' and was green. It was HOT but had a good flavor. DH didn't like the tamarind taste, although I loved it. BUT, I don't remember that taste in massaman curries I have had in the restaurants.

If I am able to find the massaman paste, I'm going to try it again, but without the tamarind.

You're a sweetheart, but see, this is what irks me -- I live in LOS ANGELES for goodness sake

where I'm supposed to be able to get anything, right?? With so many Thai restaurants, wouldn't you think this would be an easy thing to find????!

After all, what other reason is there to live here?!

Good to hear cheezz! Frankly, I didn't get to try the $.78? can of real Thai Massaman

paste as I told you in my earlier post because it expired. Next time I go to Wong Kai, I can pick up a couple of cans or more and mail them to you. I'm due for another trip there anyhow. It's only 15 minutes away and I can get really good Thai coconut milk for $1.00 and bird's eye chilies there too. PM me with how many cans you want and I'll gladly ship them -- heck, I might even try it myself like I've wanted to!

I'm off the whole Christmas week - Yay!!

What a sweetheart! I think a can would be enough (depending on size)? It only takes a few tbl.

I don't know what the bird's eye chilies are - are they used in Thai cooking? This is a whole new area for me. I cook Chinese, Mexican, Japanese, Southern... but haven't tried Thai before. I do buy the really good coconut milk, though.

No problemo cheezz. Yes, bird's eye chilies are a staple of Thai cooking and you can also use

dried which I have but haven't used because I can get fresh. The bird's eye chilies are super powerful and must be deseeded unless you like to play with fire. I can get a bundle of them for a buck at Wong Kai and they might just get to Callyfornia (aka State of Arrrnold) in time for you to refrigerate or freeze. I'm off next week so shoot me an email with your address and I'll be happy to mail a goodie package to you. I'm also going there to get their good Thai coconut milk that's also only a buck. I'm craving some Thai food and would like to make drunken noodles while I'm (ahem) off work...
