My friend and I took the 30-mile drive to the restaurant for a midweek lunch that is locally famous for their chicken riggies. Still wanting to see the sauce up close again to recreate it, I ordered the riggies.
What a disappointment! The sauce was descibed as a "buttery wine sauce" and was definately a combination of alfredo and some tomato sauce (waitress confirmed that) with hot cherry peppers, green bell pepper chunks, slices of onions, one (yes, one) black olive, too-al dente rigatoni, and about a tablespoon of chicken meat in the whole bowl. It tasted good, but I could (and will) make it myself with more chicken and more olives, and will cook the pasta more. I brought some home and when I reheat it, it will probably be perfect with added chicken. I think I'll try alfredo sauce and a tablespoon of tomato paste when I make it myself.
On the positive side, it was a beautiful, sunny day, and we saw trees beginning to turn color along the old Erie canal in Rome, huge fields of sunflowers, meadows of bright purple New England asters; then bought 10-cent pie pumpkins (why didn't I buy more?!) and a dozen ears of Silver Queen corn where I met Mika, a Russian-blue cat from Brooklyn (who was keeping guard over the farm stand - what a cutie!), and had a nice, relaxing afternoon.
