Food for airline travel. Would you like to share what you take on long

flights in lieu of the late, unlamented airline meals. I have always packed two cheese sandwiches with marge and mustard, fig newtons, and packs of peanut butter Nabs. Lots of Nabs for trips to Europe as they've never heard of them. Protein, carbs and fiber.

I grab a Southwestern Cobb Salad from Chili's To Go at the airport. Yum.

Funny you should show up just now...I'm at this very moment poised to make your pumpkin muffins.)

Sliced turkey breast and swiss on pumpernickel or baguette with mayo, mustard, etc.,

plus fruit, homemade brownies or cookies... although, the last time, I actually took two slices of homemade devil's food cake with chocolate ganache!

Once I found a good tiny take-out place at one of the airports and bought a huge grilled chicken caesar salad - it was actually good. Don't remember the name of the place, though, and I only saw it in one airport.

The last several times we've flown they've confiscated the food we were bringing. Now if

we have a layover I always try for Midway. Gold Coast Chicago Dogs. Yum. Can't stand the people who load up on McDonalds and bring it on the plane. I know some folks love Mickey D's but I think it stinks up the entire plane.

Wow, were they confifisated for liquid or?I always take granola bars, dried apricots, cranberrries,

almonds. These things are in my bag for if I get to a hotel after restuarant is closed or for breakkie if I depart early. depending on length of flight, I pick up a deli sandwich.
We have an amazing restaurant, Anthonys, at Seatac, so I usually board the plane happily stuffed and wined!

My DD always takes In 'N Out Burger smileys/smile.gif I take nuts, trail mix or a fruit salad...

and whatever homemade dessert I've just made.... I'm sure people drool when I drag out a big old piece of chocolate cake and get milk from the flight attendant. Often I take a fruit salad with yogurt and nuts on top.

Even salads are dicey because they'll confiscate your salad dressing (unless you have those individual packets). Have to buy H2O in the airport - can't take anything liquid through security.

No liquids. I took a bag of fruit and nut mix and some cheese and crackers and apples.

I think it depends on the airport. It seems the bigger the airport the more lenient they are. We never have aproblem in NY.
Now we just wait until we're through security and buy something at one of the shops.

TSA's site does not forbid the type of food you had, you was robbed, I think!

I fly a great deal and have never had food taken in any airport. I usually put an insulated lunch bag in my carry on with a nice sandwich from home, a bunch of grapes and a couple of cookies. I fly European carriers to Europe vs American carriers. Swiss, for instance still has a decent meal and free drinks in economy. Polite attendants and fairly comfortable seats too.

Agreed, my sister had a sandwich confiscated at a small airport. No one told her, she found out

when she was ready to eat it.

2.5 hours IS a long flight to my 4 & 6 year olds so we brought along...

plenty of munchies and candy. It kept 'em quiet! Next time we'll have to figure out how to curb the 4 (total) potty breaks. It's all about the cart coming by and ordering a pop and getting the thrill of going to the funky lavatory. Ahhh, to be young again smileys/smile.gif

was this to/from Canada? I wasn't allowed to take a ham sandwich on board. ate it at security.
