Food & Wine includes several "Julie & Julia" party ideas this month

wine suggestion

I saw the Food and Wine wine suggestion of a white Bordeaux with the bacon/leek quiche and was taken a little aback. I would have thought a white wine from Alsace would have been better -- pinot gris or riesling. Because such a quiche makes one think of the food from Alsace with the onion tarts and mounds of meats. Any reactions? cheers, Bonnie

HA! nothing is brighter than this Alaskan White body. this luminaria could

light up the entire backyard! (wearing a cover-up, of course)

I'll come like a shot...wear one of those tees with a sexy young chick....

tanned and undimply, in a bikini.....(huge smile here)....even one that is sporting a picture of a topless chick.....hahaha....wishful thinking I should EVAH be like that again.

Pinot gris....

would be my choice but in SA when I was just there they offer Bordeaux with dairy dishes....perhaps 'cause they dont have good pinots there. Chardonnay is also offered a lot ...not my favourite whomever produces chardonnay, have to say!

joanie, I have had some nice Sauv Blanc from Durbanville--Durbanville Hills. Great seller here.

Any Cape wine is good....

I never knew any vineyards around Durbanville....quite funny.
My in-law Aunt/Uncle had a huge fruit farm in the 'garden', this land has been sold for an old age development and vineyards, I belive....right there in Durbanville....
This last trip I found so many new 'boutique' vineyards in areas that was just scrub land where I used to ride my horse through. Quite amazing the way these beautiful vineyards have sprung up.....just love Cape wines myself.

I've only made one quiche in my life (FOPC) so I'll be searching for recipes.

FOPC = Fear of Pie Crust followed closely by the old familiar "my God, that is nothing but a slice of solidified fat" Thin Years trauma.

Bonnie, just wondering if you have tried the Coppola Sophia Rose'

I saw it in the store the other day, and it was in such a pretty bottle(I'm a sucker for pretty bottles and clever labels)

Me too! Basically, I'm a wine bottle slut...couldn't care less about the contents.

I'm in it for the aesthetics.

and I can't pass up anything bottled in a blue bottle---like Skyy vodka.

I absolutely love that blue. what's up with that? and the clever wine labels/names. some just make me laugh and the artwork is getting so inventive. they've got me.

sophia rose

I had to google to see a photo of the bottle since we just don't get it here...gosh it's gorgeous. Is is named for his daughter, the director Sophia? absolutely lovely. Though I am also a sucker for a pretty bottle shape and color...hey the Bombay Sapphire gin in the blue bottle is one of my must-have purchases in the past, until a spirits-expert did a blind tasting with me and showed me how much better Gordon's is...I have learned to look beyond physical beauty since then. I go for taste now, in all things. And, yes, dang it, I would buy the Coppola rose. In a pinch. Just based on its beauty and name. cheers, Bonnie

love your insights! I have a feling this rose is a dry one. like the french---not too sweet. It's

a bit pricey up here, I think it was about $19. I was thinking of getting it for a wedding gift with some nice glasses and a pretty fused glass wine stopper I bought from a local artist. It seemed a good choice for a summer wedding. I best give it a try first.
