Foodie gift idea

For Chistmas this past year, my mother put together a binder of all our handwritten family recipes, including some from her mother and grandmother, some I wrote in grade school, and some from my father's side of the family (including my grandmother's recipe for peach ice cream!). Mom loves handwritten recipes because handwriting is so unique to each person.

She photocopied the recipes, but you could scan them easily and create a digital record.

In any case, it is a nice momento to have--thought I'd pass along the idea.

Cheers,

Amanda

Amanda, I did the same thing for Christmas 3 years ago and my family and friends loved it smileys/smile.gif

Such a sweet mom! I did books this last Christmas for my girls, but didn't hand-write...

Oh my, my carpal tunnel would've been SCREAMING! I typed them all up on the computer, inserted pics whenever possible, then printed them off on lightweight 8-1/2 x 11 card stock. Then I went through and hand-wrote comments like "Melody came up with this recipe in junior high and won a local bake-off contest". Then I put 2 cards back to back in sheet protectors and inserted it all in 3-ring binders. I included an index and 'helpful hints' in the back. Each one weighed in at almost 8 lbs!!!!! But it was so worth it - my girls just loved it.

I did one for my daughters first anniversary - it is "paper" so it was fitting. Had some recipes >>

from my mom too so it was really nice. My recipes were hand written for the most part with a couple from magazines. I am going to give one to my son as well. I did it in a looseleaf binder so we have been able to update when we adopt a new family recipe.
Makes a great gift.
