soften butter in a microwave. stick 3 fingers in to the depth of your 2nd knuckle. slather butter on corn. lick off the rest.

voile! no little smudges of butter on your plate.

seriously though, have you ever googled a recipe and found out thet Every foolproof recipe listed has you replace good, cheap and wholesome ingredients with canned soup, bagged gravy and polysyllabic chemicals with shady reputations?

Chicken Divan

Google it and just try to weed through to find any that do NOT use canned cream-of-msg soup. Oops I mean mushroom.

Seriously, though, rvb - cheats are a necessary part of my life...

I'd go mad without my cream of MSG soups and little helpers of that ilk for quickie meals or for when I just plain don't feel like cooking.

Cheats I always proudly have on hand are:

Kikkoman Teriyaki Marinade
canned Italian plum tomatoes
jars of chicken and beef rubs
clam, beef & chicken bases
cream of everything soups
cans of turkey, chicken & beef gravies
frozen tortellini and ravioli
jarred pasta sauce
frozen peas, corn and spinach

Things I absolutely refuse to have on hand:

American cheese
Velveeta
canned vegetables (except hubby must have beets)
canned soups (except for cream ofs)
plain 'ol white loaf bread
margarine or as I call it Crock of Sh*t
Kool-Aid or any fake juices
icing-covered Pop Tarts
Jello, but I do have unflavored gelatin

LOL, every Nov. I must buy a pkg of raspberry jello to make a cranberry salad. Why??

Because it isn't Thanksgiving without it. I've made the same salad for more than 30 years, and there would be mutiny if I skipped it.

i totally agree with you, clofthwld ...

i use ingedients just like you do. my only diff if canned seafood soup.

Lest I sound too snobby...

While I don't use cream of anything soup, the other day I had spaghetti-o's.

For breakfast lol. My only excuse is pregnancy. At least I didn't put cocoa in it (yet).

I do keep jarred pasta sauces, the occasional canned soup, and the last time I was recovering from the flu the only thing I could stomach was pasta with canned beef gravy and velveeta.

Ok, now I have to add something to my list of no-nos: Spaghetti-Os!

When I was pregnant, all I wanted was fresh blueberries and cream, day in and day out. Thank the Lord, I didn't crave something like that. LOL

I have 4

ages 19, 17, 15, 8.

Actually it is them that inspired me to cook well and also to move away from certain things, necessitating making my own.

I've had an almost-painful craving all day

for blueberries and/or melon. I just got home from the store, no blueberries in sight but I got a huge casaba melon and some canned loquats.
