For the 4th....We The People cake

The lettering is actually easy to do. I followed Gesine's method for a library cake.

Here are the steps simplified:

Design your saying and print it out.
FLIP over, slip a SILPAT or parchment paper over this and trace letters by piping with joconde thick base (included in her instructions).
Make sponge cake (genoise) and gently COVER the lettering.
Bake.
Gently remove sponge cake from pan and flip.
Bottom of cake is now top of cake and the lettering should read correctly...you know, unless you're dyslexic.
Cut strips of "lettered sponge" to fit your base cake. I slapped mine around the perimeter of a round stacked cake.
Swiss meringue icing covers a multitude of sins.

Attached is a link that shows the more common use for joconde. It's a favorite method for banding French pastries.

Our library courier stopped by & just starred at the cake. Then he asked if I had INDIVIDUALLY

cut each letter and somehow inserted it into the cake??

After explaining this method to him, I sent him on his way with a plateful of crack candy. For all I know, he may still be wondering around in a haze of spiked insulin.
