I get a newsletter from a local restaurant, and this tidbit was included in the latest edition:
XO Bistro and Top Chef
So I’ve been watching the series ‘Top Chef’ on Bravo and am really into it. Tom Collichio, chef/host is really credible and a wonderful chef, Gramercy Tavern in New York is one of my favorite restaurants.
Thank heaven Steven is gone but the point of my post is Dave. Dave is in the final, he is the whiney, not particularly talented chef who wins over his judges by charm and emotion.
Well my pals Adam, Sara and I went grazing in Manhattan Beach probably 9 months ago dining around, and one of the spots we eat in was XO Bistro. We sat at the bar –this guy (at the time I thought was the bartender) was doing paperwork behind and on the bar and I said can we sit here and said very snippily said, I guess so.It seemed it was a great imposition for him to move his paperwork. He then offered us wine by the glass with an attitude and introduced himself as the chef.
We asked him what he would recommend and said his crab cakes are the best in LA , no filler all crab! . They were the worst, snow crab not dungeness, all filler and somewhat fishy. Everything else we had, was no better.
Adam called me last week and said did I remember the chef/bartender at XO Bistro was Dave from Top Chef. Oh my God you’re right. XO Bistro closed 3 months ago Dave is now having his 15 minutes of fame but you know what, Harold is going to win, Dave I wish I had good memories of you, so I could support the local boy.
