on places to eat, visit, walk-to, shows to see, etc.? We'll only be there 2 days (over 1 night), plan to see a show off Broadway (possibly off, off) but we're up for adventure! Care to share your NYC favorites?

Any interest in having a favorite travel section on the site, listed

by city/country where we could list favorites - restaurants, lodging, shopping, tours, with reviews, names and addresses? Is this too far out of the site mission? Colleen

Here are some of our favorites, all ranges

we tend to spend $$ since we don't get in often, even though we live in NJ!

Over the top/VERY special occasion:
L'Atelier Joel Robuchon: exquisite food and prep detail, if budget is no object

Nice:
Toqueville
Scalini Fedeli
Avra Estiatorio (beautiful Greek, specialty seafood)
11 Madison Park

Casual:
Metrazur (in Grand Central Station) worth going to see GCS
The Pearl Oyster Bar: Greenwich Village
(great lobster roll sandwiches and skinny fries)
Butter

Have you tried opentable.com? They have a ton of restaurants listed, with menus, reviews etc, and best of all, you can book your resercation online. (hope I haven't broken the new Mimi rule!! smileys/smile.gif

We are going to Grammercy Tavern in 2 weeks, will report back then

Ohhhh- we were supposed to go down a couple of weeks ago but never made it.

Number 1 has to be Gramercy Tavern because nephew cooks there. I've never had anything there be less than perfect.
Eleven Madison Park
Love Lupa for lunch
A really fun place for tapas is Boqueria
Momofuko Saam
Go down to the lower east side for a pickle from the barrel at Guss's
Katz's for a pastrami sandwich to go with the pickle!
Also down there is Il Laboratorio del Gelato for the best gelato outside of Italy
I have to stop or my list will go on forever.

We had planned to see Mama Mia (based on the songs of Abba- now I'm gonna be singing Dancing Queen all day)

I wouldn't want to live in the city at this stage of my life but I certainly do love to visit. Whatever you do just the excitement of being there, the noise, the people....I've never had a bad time!

Enjoy yourself!

I used to live in Grammercy Park

for a short time about 12 years ago and was planning to head to that area on this visit to walk around if the weather holds. If I remember correctly, I think that it was at Grammercy Tavern that my husband and I had the most incredible zabaglione.

Thanks for the suggestions! We love lobster roll and Greenwich Village - probably do that for one of the lunches! I'll look into the other restaurants for our dinner.

Hope you have a wonderful trip - do report back! Colleen

Last year when we visited late in February

one day was warm and the other was very cold and windy. We have our fingers crossed that we will be able to walk around (everywhere!) The excitement is wonderful - I love New York!

I've copied your list and really appreciate that you shared your favorites!

What restaurant is your nephew working at in Gramercy Park? Colleen
