FRC - Foodie business idea I just discovered

colleenmomof2

Well-known member
for food sampling tours mid-day on Saturday.

I imagine restaurants/businesses would be willing to give sample plates as part of their advertising investment in exchange for potential customers and all of the pr that is generated.

If you like to walk, write press releases, talk to people, can share the value of marketing/pr with business owners, know someone who knows how-to create a website (maybe you!), and have a walkable community nearby, $35 per person (or whatever your area will bear), might be a nice source of extra cash.

I like the idea as a starting point for the other business opportunities that can be generated with access to the businesses and community leadership! Colleen

I did a San Francisco Chinatown food/walking tour a few months ago,

with cookbook author Joyce Jue who was born and raised in Chinatown. It was fun and informative and I loved learning all about the culture and history and exploring the various Chinese shops, delicatessens, bakeries, noodle and fortune cookie factories, and fish and poultry markets within Chinatown. The tour concluded with an incredible dim sum luncheon included in the tour price. I think food tours are a great way to explore and learn about a region. Are you entertaining the idea of hosting tours yourself Colleen?

NYC also has some great foodie/walking tours. The one I did of Greenwich

Village incorporated food tasting and culture and was well-priced at $42 for the 3 hour tour. At the link is the tour company we used. I'd love to do another food tour to explore a different area of the city next time we're there.

Pat, I'm working on several projects in gerontology right now

and taking classes in Royal Oak - but I would like to take their tour. My classes are over this Saturday so maybe next weekend!

They are in my market area so I would need to either work for them, compete head-on or come up with another business angle. For me, I look at the possibilities as a fun "hobby," in addition to the full-time gig!

Can you share how much you paid and more details about the Chinatown tour, please? How much work do you think was involved to plan and carry out your tour? Colleen

I really don't have a sense of the

amount of work that goes into planning such tours though I imagine once a tour has been planned and executed any future work would be minimal if the tours are ongoing and fairly frequent.

The cost of the Chinatown tour was $90 which seemed a bit steep to me but I was able to use $70 worth of credits I'd earned being a volunteer cooking class assistant at Ramekins cooking school in Sonoma so my cost was $20. The under $50 tours are more appealing to me if I'm paying for them myself. ;o)

Would love to hear your experience of the Royal Oak tour when you go.
