FRC: Need your opinions. I'm baking for a Sunday Coffee Hour. I've decided to do assorted muffins.

I have blueberry lemon, cranberry pecan, banana chocolate chip and corn with bacon and cheese. My question- should I also take butter, or an assortment of flavored butters or maybe just one type that would go with everything (although I don't know what type that would be). What do you folks think?

I'd stick with plain butter

and let the muffins shine. Sounds like they'll have enough flavor on their own.

I'd stick with plain butter unless you can find butter with sea salt...

a cafe in our town sells butter with a layer of sea salt that runs through it and it is just delicious on everything. You'd probably have to go to a gourmet-ish type of store for it.

I think it's wonderful that you're taking a savory option for the

people like me who can't stomach sweet stuff first thing in the morning. There usually is not that option.

I Third the "just plain butter"

what richard said, although...

i'd be interested to see how many takers you'd get for smart balance.

guilt, you know.

Go with the FLAVORED butter and I am going to give you 2 recipes

Maple Butter

1 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup pure maple syrup

Beat butter in small mixing bowl on high until light and fluffy.
Gradually beat in syrup until well combined. Will keep covered in the refrigerator for 3 weeks.

Berry Butter
Makes about 1/2 cup.

1/2 cup butter or marg. softened
1 tsp confectioners sugar
1/3 cup strawberry, blueberry, raspberry or your favorite jam

Mix all ingredients together till fluffy.

Personally, I think

Dianne's two suggestions are too sweet for the muffins listed.

If you decide to go with flavored butter, I would be sure and include plain sweet butter as well, so that people have options.
