FRC (sort of): We just moved into a new place....

and we find that, when the refrigerator door is

sitting open, it has a tendency to drift open

to the point of banging into the kitchen archway.

I was thinking of putting some kind of cushion

on the door, maybe a pot holder with a magnet

inside, to soften the blow (and quiet the rattle)

when it swings open and hits the wall.

Anybody else have this problem, and if so, what

did you do about it?

Thank you.

I have so many magnetted things on the actual refrigerator door that it is hard to tell

if it is open or closed.

I remember from when I got my frig that they insisted that it be ....

placed so that it doesn't swing open and so that it closes itself when opened. They were very careful and used a water measure to make sure it was in place correctly. Of course the floor here has moved over the years and mine swings open too. It hasn't harmed the frig so far --- but check if it can be placed more evenly. I know that it is adjustable.

Matchbooks under the side of the door that it is leaning to?

My girlfriend taught me that trick with unbalanced tables and it works like a charm. Not sure about refrigeratorsm, but maybe?

P.S. I made a large batch of your spaghetti sauce tonight to freeze, Delish!

Serving Size : 2 Preparation Time :0:00

Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method

2/3 cup olive oil (or more)
2 medium yellow onion -- minced
1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
Fresh minced garlic (to taste - I use two cloves
you might use three or four)
2 cans Contadina Crushed Tomatoes with -- (28 oz)
Roasted Garlic
2 cans beef broth (I use low-sodium) -- (15 oz)
2 cans tomato paste -- (12 oz)
2 Tb dried parsley
1 Tb dried oregano
1 teaspoon dried sweet basil -- (heaping)
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
4 tablespoons packed brown sugar
2 bay leaf
2 packages Jennie-O Hot Italian -- (19.5 oz)
Turkey Sausage Links

In a large pot, heat olive oil and cook onions for several minutes.
(There should be just enough oil to cover the onions. Also, most recipes say to
"sweat" the onions until translucent, but I like to cook them until they are almost carmelized.)
Add the red pepper flakes and the garlic and cook for a couple more minutes. Pour
in crushed tomatoes and beef broth, and whisk in the tomato paste. Add parsley,
oregano, basil, black pepper and brown sugar and mix well (I crush the dried
parsley and oregano in my palms). Add the bay leaf and let simmer.
Remove the sausage from casings and brown, crumble and drain. Add to the tomato sauce
and let simmer as long as you like. Remove the bay leaf, and it's ready to serve.

Scott, if you can't adjust the refrigerator leveling feet get...

clear self-sticking bumper and place it where the door meets the wall. Either to the frig or the wall, whichever is less conspicuous.

In our new home we find the cabinet doors hit walls in several places. The only time you notice the bumpers is when you don't get the bang you were expecting.

I found the bumpers at Home Depot and Lowe's. They are usually used behind picture frames.

You also might try tightening the screws holding the door in place.

Top and Bottom.

There are spacers to keep the hardware from stripping out from daily movement, but tightening may just give you the extra bit of tension you need.
