Thanks for the responses. Yes, Melissa, it is I, your mother. I should have asked you first, since you always have the right answers.
I have been lurking around for sometime reading the posts, because Melissa so often tells me about things she reads here. They are all entertaining and helpful.
I did a search and did not find any free software, but I will try the download to use with MS Word. I will let you know the progress I make with using it. About 15 or 20 ladies may submit information. We will see what we get. The cookbook has to be completed by May. I probably will include the Parmesan Salsa. When Melissa prepared it for a family get-together, everyone wanted to know, "What is that?" Most went back for more and more and more.
If anyone else has anything to suggest, I will try it before I get involved in the process too deeply.

and if you have a little time before you need it, I can e-mail you a template that I used to put together a couple of simple cookbooks recently. Richard of Cincy (here at the swap) helped me with it and it came out very nice I have been told.
You just have to cut-and-paste your own recipes in there - the pages, table of contents, and everything is all set up already.
