French Dressing Recipe

I am looking for a French Dressing Recipe which is red, thin and sweet. Every recipe I find when I blend it with catsup ends up thick. The recipe I am looking for has a little thickness but not as thick as Western French just as an example. It is a thinner consistency.I don't know how to get it sweet, thinner and red. The catsup when blended seems to make it thick. Any help will be appreciated. I know there is Terragon Vinegar, sugar and what is used to make it a have a little bit of consistency without being too thick I am not sure. Don't want it thick and pink or orange.

BPF, When I think of French dressing I think of vinaigrette. What you call French I may call Russian

Either way it's a totally American invention. Here's a recipe from The Joy of Cooking that might be what you're looking for. It will likely be thick, but you could use a little less mayonnaise and then thin it with buttermilk:

RUSSIAN DRESSING:

Ingredients:

1 cup mayonnaise
1/4 cup chili sauce or ketchup
1 tbsp freshly grated horseradish
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tbsp fresh parsley, minced
1 tsp. grated onion
salt
ground black pepper

Directions:

Stir the ingredients together in a small bowl, salting and peppering to taste, until they are well blended.

Good luck!

Hi BPF, I wonder if you're thinking of a dressing made with tomato soup. I've never made it and am

not sure if all recipes would come out red, but here's a link to one that looks pretty red. Problem is, there's no sugar in this recipe, so it probably isn't as sweet as you would like. You could add sugar or try googling French dressing tomato soup. There are several on Food.com, (used to be recipezaar).

Here is one from my hub's Great-Aunt Alice. I have never made it

but his family swoons over it. Looking at the ratio of ingredients, it should be on the thinnish side. If you try it, let me know what you think.
