Friends, I am sorry. I have some devastating news. We have lost our friend Randi.

Randi had been under tremendous stress since she lost her husband Don a year and a half ago, both personal and financial. An impending real estate sale that would have helped her resolve things fell through. Perhaps that was the last straw for her, or perhaps she just missed Don too much. She took her own life peacefully on Tuesday evening.

I am in shock because, even though we only met once, we communicated daily and were quite close. I saw no sign of this coming in her emails. She was her usual chatty self that very afternoon. I knew she had been in a difficult situation but she had always kept her sense of humor and did not seem depressed.

She was an extremely independent individual with deep spiritual beliefs and a very fluid concept of life, death and reincarnation. I hope that was a comfort to her.

She was also a dear friend to many of us here and we will miss her terribly.

One of my first thoughts when I heard the news was “What will I tell the Swap?” Nan told me that was one of her first thoughts too. We are a family here. I’ve communicated with some of you privately and I want to share this message I received from Marilyn:

“Peace, my friend.

...with the hope that Randi is also at peace, wherever she is. And that she's holding a good glass of wine in hand.

And that whoever is sitting next to her is whispering interesting and funny gossip.”

When the shock has worn off, I think we should create a thread of Randi’s best recipes and witticisms.

Peace,

Joe

I don't even know what to say. I feel like I've been punched in my stomach. This

is incredibly sad. Peace and love to you Randi.

OMG - I was in constant contact with her and had no idea

Oh Joe,

I am so thankful and appreciative that you shared this with us. I, like you, am in utter shock. Randi and I wrote back and forth so many times this week.

Oh Joe - how she loves you. She mentioned you so often.

Again, thank you.

I am going to go and pour myself a glass of wine and toast to my dear friend and wonderful woman.

I found out yesterday about this news and have been deeped saddened. We all love you Randi, and...

will miss you terribly.

OMYGosh...she chatted to us on Tuesday, I was just reading .....

her post on the turkey brining.
What a shock. She will be missed terribly.
Hugs to you Randi.

Heart wrenching... things are never so bad as to do such a thing. My heart goes out to the family.

Chills are going through me...I knew Randi only through her posts...

may she rest in peace. A thread dedicated to her, what a wonderful heartwarming idea.
