Fruit cake lifespan

I know that many people dislike the traditional fruitcake, but we love it. I promised a friend who also loves it that I'd make one for her, but then life got ahead of me, so I decided to try a new, but very similar recipe, where one marinates the fruit in booze for a few days before mixing and baking, which the recipe says eliminates the need to baste with brandy weekly. Another friend tells me that the lack of the brandy applications means that the cake won't last. What do you think? I suppose I could warn my friend that it might not last so she should refrigerate or freeze leftovers.

That sounds an awful lot like Amish Friendship bread, where you marinate the fruit in booze and then use it to make bread, passing along the starter (aka, the Friendship nod). That bread only has a week shelf-life and then it must be refrigerated.

What about making your recipe in small mini-pans and give her one to eat now, putting the rest in her freezer for when she wants more?

(I've been checking Extension food services for help on this...all are assuming a booze baptism.)
