fun little article about German Christmas markets. describes the fiery punch that Richard makes.

My Mom went back to Germany in the mid-1970s, after being in the US for...

...about 25 years. She wanted to visit at the end of November and into the early part of December -just so she could go to her town's Christmas Market.

I've never been to Germany during this time, but it is definitely in my future, God willing.

Thanks Ang, ...

I wonder if he was just talking off the top of his head when he mentions butter in Elisenlebkuchen. There is never butter in the Elisen type. Others have it, but not the Elisen that he's describing built on the oblaten wafers. Just pulled out a batch from the oven from the new recipe I got from Germany. It is the real deal. We've tried a dozen different Elisen recipes all purporting to be the real thing. This one, finally, is. Also about ready to pop 4 cherry Dresdener Stollen into the oven to finish the day.

My Feuerzangenbowle (we call it Prussian Artillery Punch here) is "slightly" (said with tongue firmly planted in cheek) stronger than the mulled wine version he mentions. LOL Mine includes copious amounts of rum, cognac and a bunch of other things besides Glühwein. It's set to go off a week from today at our big holiday party.

Fröhliche Weihnachten!
