Funny little review of a Sous Vide cooker

That was my take on it exactly. Yeah, it may work well, but has to be a quick passing fad.

I'm with Cheezz on this one. It seems super fussy to me and to buy another appliance

to give the meat a water bath, then take it out to brown it seems like the opposite of braising. Brown first then put into a liquid bath. Which is why I finally bought a Crock Pot which I can set the insert on the gas burner to brown the meat and then put the insert into the main vessel to bathe in the liquid. LOL

I don't think it is a mandatory item to have (more)

but I have fun with gadgets. From crockpots to sous-vide, to pressure cookers, I like to experiment and stretch my horizons

I don't think one NEEDS to have a sous-vide, but for instance, for flatiron steaks, sous-vide makes it perfect and no other method comes even close. So if I buy a flatiron steak, I know it will be cooked sous vide, every single time.

it is also very convenient because I can set it up at lunch time and have just a few minutes of final touches before dinner time -

But I agree - one can cook anything without it. I just happen to have fun with it, and well.. that's enough for me smileys/wink.gif

I agree Sally, anything that makes cooking fun is great. Thinking back on my first microwave and

food processor, both acquired before they were mainstream items and what fun I had playing with them. If sous-vide machines had been around when I was younger, I'd have been all over it. I see that cooking meats and browning them afterwards is gaining popularity even if not done with the sous-vide method. Cook's Illustrated recently had a recipe for cooking chicken breasts at a low oven temp until done, then using a skillet on the stovetop to brown and crisp the skin.

If I were younger and not trying to downsize I would be all over this in a quick minute

I have been through bread makers, rice cookers, clay pots, food warmers, bar blender gadgets with one side that blended and one side that crushed the ice and any number of silly little cooking tools supposedly dedicated to only one thing, oh my, this is bringing back memories. Now, we want to downsize and I have been getting rid of so much. 53 years of marriage worth!
So you younger gals, play happily with the newest and greatest and keep us elders in the loop! I love reading about it.
