Gel Mats--Are they worth it?

I'm thinking about asking for two for Christmas.

We are re-habbing our kitchen and just finished putting in a ceramic tile floor. I absolutely love it as far as looks and clean up, but I developed a back and hip problem from a fall at work and standing on it really kills.

Do you think the gel mats would be worth it or would they drive me as batty as my ergonomically correct chair does? Also, are some better than others?

Hi Desertjean - I have 3 that I have had for 17 months now. I love them -

have slate floors throughout most of my house so I know what you mean about "hard on your back." I also had back surgery in January and spend most of my time in the kitchen, in pursuit of the perfect recipe! I have one I stand on for cooking, one for washing dishes and one in front of the fridge for comfort grazing.
I definitely would order them again in a heartbeat.
They are extremely heavy so they stay put. When I mop the floors, I just mop over them.
I have the basketweave design and they need no other maintenance whatsoever.
I did have an issue with the edges curling on the large one I had about a month ago. After some advice from Traca and Michael I contacted the company and they replaced it for free even though it was out of warranty.
Good luck and hope Santa is generous this year!

I just got one myself after the previous post - i love it! I have a large

island for a workspace, so I got the 6 ft one - it is a pleasure to stand on, that's for sure. I also have severe foot problems - I never walk around the house in barefeet, I always wear Croc-type shoes. Have you tried those? they make a huge difference, as well.
