Gingerbread frosting update

I made the gingerbread boy and girl cakes this weekend, and the Dromedary cake mix made exactly two cakes!! We just added a little more cinnamon, nutmeg (fresh!!), allspice and ginger, and mace (fresh!) to bump up the flavor.

Then my little helper and I whipped up the buttercream recipe that Meryl posted (and thank you!) and we added both lemon and orange zests, which was delicious! This would be a great frosting for breakfast rolls in lieu of the standard icing for cinnamon buns or what have you.

We improvised with a zippy bag and "piped" on hair, a dress (with cleavage!), shoes for the gal, and hair, a vest and shorts and shoes for the boy and stuck on the ubiquitous raisins and red hots. Such fun!

The cakes were delicious, of course we had to eat the heads first! After demolishing them we all decided that they would not frost them much next time (except to hold on the decorations) because the cakes themselves tasted so good! will take pictures next time and post!!
