Going to Savannah, Ga. for a book festival in Feb. Any restaurants recs..Anyone in Savannah?

Marilyn, thanks for the tip.

DH & I will be driving from Ft. Lauderdale up to Charleston early February and can always use good pointers for places to see, stay or dine.

We very much enjoyed our lunch at Mrs Wilkes Dining Room

It's a southern diner serving lunch to guests seated at communal tables. Though it's been many years since we were there I still think about the fried chicken. So yummy. One downside, the line to get in can be very long, often over an hour.

In Pensacola there was Ma Hopkins boarding house with the same communal dining. dreamy fried chicken

and a yellow squash casserole that I still dream of.

Can't do the link thing. But just google Savannah book festival..I try to get to one every 2 yrs.

Dora Charles is Paula Deen's former chef --used her recipes.

Dora Charles – A Real Southern Cook In Her Own Kitchen

That should be an interesting encounter in Savannah.

Ah, a Southern classic. My fave came from Aunt Fanny's Cabin in Atlanta, almost the same except for

a tablespoon of sugar.

Thanks everyone. I planned on the Olde pink house and Mrs. Wilkes for sure. I will add the Savannah

Grill. I don't think I need to wait on line for ice cream since we have
marvelous ice creams here. Just across the street is a Sicilian ice cream place (run by a real Sicilian!) and lots more Italian ice creams all around.
I will look at the Dora Charles place and also want to try someplace with shrimps and grits since I have never had them.
Read about A.Lure. Like the name!
I absolutely look forward to walking around the city and probably just stopping in at places.

For Traca - the best book festival that I have been too is the one in Nashville. Charlottesville Va. was also a good one. I was to 2 of those. I believe there is one in LA and in Seattle also.

Thanks again
