Good News/Bad News

I bought an OXO cherry pitter. Works great for less than $10. I did two and a half pounds of cherries in about 10 minutes.

Bad news-I also really wanted to make a jar of cherries in maraschino liqueur. Unfortunately I can't find the liqueur anywhere. None of our upscale liquor stores have it. Some said it is on backorder. From what I read online it looks like the import of it is kind of spotty. I'm really disappointed.

Do you have an Italian neighborhood where you are? Try a liquor store there.

No Italian neighborhoods. One good Italian market, but they only

sell beer and wine. Alcohol with higher proofs (even as low as 40) has to be sold in a liquor store.

Melissa thanks for the OXO cherry pitter tip. I have black fingernails from pitting by hand!

To remove black fruit stains from your hands, cut a lemon in half, and grind your fingers into the

lemon flesh. Keep working each finger into the pulp, and your fingers will magically whiten. Your fingers will turn dark again in a day, but if you use the lemon every day, in a few days all will clear up. My fingers turn black like this when I process grapes, too.

Thanks Marianne! I scrubbed them forever in the shower this morning and they are a bit better..

now I know to use lemon the next time!
