Grains of Paradise to order...

I have been searching for someplace to purchase grains of paradise. It is expensive to order just one item and sometimes the shipping charge is more than the product. As there is a Penzys just up the street from my office, I am pretty well stocked and couldn't find other items to add to my order. I called around to local places but no luck. This morning I came across My Spice Sage which offers free shipping on all orders. So I am trying it out..... Just thought I would pass it along!http://www.myspicesage.com/search/go#w=grain%20of%20paradise

Would you like to split an order? Wigs generously offered to share some of hers

but I'll share an order if you'd like.

I also need some ground aleppo chili to try a Gramercy recipe.

Let me know...

This is more expensive than what I got at Bulkfoods.com. I got

2 oz. for $5.99 so that's basically $3 an oz. but then with shipping I guess it comes to the same. Good to know though. Thanks

This is such a good idea! We all should have done this and purchased

a larger amount. Isn't it cheaper the more you buy?

It was very thick but the recipe does say it will be. I just took it out

of the pan so not sure about the air holes. I can't wait to taste it.

FWIW....I put the cake batter into one of those fancy Bundt Pans with the patterns

and it came out perfectly. I was amazed! Of course, when I drizzled all the yummy sauce over the top, that ended the beauty of the design. But it would be pretty to serve it that way to guests, then drizzle the sauce over their cut slice.

I just added the sauce, very pretty. I did have to lick a finger :0) and

that rum sure stands out. Mmmm. I'm to full right now but I'll have a little piece in a while. I did pop a crumb in my mouth and really got a pop of orange/citrus taste. Interesting.

Exactly! It's so subtle but you realize what it is. Seriously, there is

so much flavor going on in that cake!

I use grains of paradise in a pepper mix

that I put into a refillable OXO grinder. I add black, white, pink, szechuan, alleppo peppers, grains of paradise, coriander seed, allspice berries if I have them handy and then I add some sea salt. If I have smoked salt, that goes in, otherwise one of the others that I have around.

That is my "go-to" seasoning when salt and pepper is called for.

I have not been able to find the refillable OXO grinders for a few years, and that saddens me.
I used to fill them with my mix and give as gifts at the holidays.

Cheez, the one I have seems to have been discontinued.

Mine is slightly smaller and I bought 3 of them for about what they want for one of those.

Years ago, I saw loads of smaller ones like mine in kitchen stores, already filled with random pepper or seasoning mixes.

Dara in Baltimore gave me a link where I could buy them empty.

Wishing now that I had gotten lots more!
