I have taken cooking classes from this lady. She does catering on a pick and choose basis, is well know in our community, and is an. educated journalist. She does well with her newsy, online news cafe, and I love her writing. I wanted to share this one because it contains information about a subject we have chatted about...good guests and bad guests. She has interesting ideas on how to be a good guest, especially the one about bringing food to a family or friends gathering. Tell me what you think.

I passed as a good guest! Went to SIL's in Detroit area 4 an early Thanksgiving reunion. Took my own

iced-down cooler, all ingredients, hand-held electric mixer, paring knife, cutting board, rasp grater...and everything else I needed to make my 2 assignments of a fruit & a salad. (I chose the Heavenly-filled Strawberries recipe above and also made a spinach salad with homemade poppy seed dressing.) I even worked on the table of her screened-in, second-floor condo porch so got in nobody's way in the kitchen. (Yes, I wore a coat out there with my apron on top! Good thing I am totally into the stage of life where I feel tons better the colder the temp is. ha!)

My reasoning: 1) As a caterer, I am used to packing & taking absolutely everything I will need to use, and 2) my dear SIL is NOT a cook so if I want a sharp knife and the proper tools for the job, I go with my own things!

Good article, Karen! The recipes also sound divine. Thanks for posting.
