We're having a family barbeque which includes PatNoCal's elegant scalloped potatoes, and also from this site 14 carat carrot cake (sorry I can't seem to see who posted it). Also pork tenderloin and peppers kebabs, and salad.

Thank you everyone.

My fireworks meal:

-Gougeres
-Smoked tuna and caper canapes

-Provencal tomato & olive tart

-Shaun posted the treasured pork loin braised in milk with lemon & sage (much better than the one I was using)
-Shaun also posted Asparagus Flans which I will serve on a side plate.
-Squashed mini potatoes

-Easy pear and cinnamon clafouti.

These items all work well for me cooking alone. I wouldn't normally braise in the summer but this pork looks after itself so I don't have to.

I just hope it doesn't rain.

Happy Canada Day.

Thank you emtd. Happy Canada Day! We're going to our friends' annual Canada Day Party.

Looking forward to a wonderful time in their gorgeous garden.

Happy Canada Day from an ex-landed immigrant

I lived there for 4 years in the 80s (Toronto) and *loved* it!

THanks, and say hello to Matthew and Mary for me. You had me going there. But

I just unwrapped my smoked tuna and it turns out to be regular tuna and not sushi grade. So I'm scrambling.

The software chose a previous post about Downton Abby that began with "What a Wonderful Menu."

I was hoping no one had seen it! LOL.

If you cry I hope it will be over the beauty of the fireworks.

Yep. But about being bummed...when I opened the package of smoked tuna at the last minute

to find that it was just TUNA. I was minus one hors d'oeuvre. And very ticked. This is the sort of thing that happens when young kids are left to manage the fish counter. (And I don't check to see what I've bought)

So one of my lessons is that I need to have last minute throw together supplies around for hors d'oeuvres.

However, my friend went nuts over the gougeres so I am now committing myself to making a whack of them for her. Good save.

And the fireworks were wonderful. Something new each year, this year it was the corkscrew.

That was lovely thank you.

I live in Edmonton and we are very lucky to have such a fantastic symphony housed in a magnificent building.
Thanks for sharing.

Isn't it a boring anthem though? But it led me to Tom Brokaw on the same page. I'm glad

I checked that out. Thank you.
