Happy July 4th! Let the festivities begin......

Happy Fourth! What's everyone making?

We are having pulled pork, burgers on the grill, and coleslaw here. Probably potato salad. Haven't figured out dessert other than watermelon yet. Suggestions?

We are having a burger bar.

Burgers on the grill, with a bar set up with sauteed mushrooms, sauteed onions, bacon, red onion slices, guacamole, various cheeses, pickles, pickled jalapenos, tomatoes and lettuce. My stepdaughter is making all of the bar stuff.

I am making chipotle baked beans, red and green salsa with tortilla chips and providing the burgers.

My sister-in-law is bringing an Asian coleslaw salad (the kind with the ramen noodles on it) and strawberry and blueberry cheesecake bars.

My stepdaughter is bringing the "bar" ingredients, along with empenadas and a fruit pizza made with cookie dough and various fruit and berries. I wish I had the picture of the one she made before, it was amazing. This time she is going to make a fireworks design with the fruit. She has amazing patience when it comes to things like this.

Happy 4th to everyone from me too. We are going

traditional and having hot dogs, Ranch macaroni salad, cole slaw, and watermelon. Ice cream with blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries. My life is getting boring ;o)

I'm working today, rats. DH will probably grill steaks and maybe twice baked potatoes. I made

a cucumber/tomato/onion salad with a viniagrette and dill yogurt dressing last night. went to a double header last night with fireworks afterwards. we shivered in the drizzle, but it was festive. sky wasn't quite dark enough like when we have the fireworks on New Years, but quite nice anyway.

We are grilling, and roasting ......

On the grill tonight will be Baby Back Pork Ribs with a Mustard-Bourbon Sauce. They were well rubbed yesterday with a home made spice concoction and rested in the fridge overnight.

Sides will be Israeli Couscous topped with oven roasted eggplant, colorful bell peppers, chunked red onions, then
drizzled with lemon vinaigrette.
Fresh corn, avocado, red onion and cherry tomato salad, with fresh basil and a champagne vinaigrette. Corn will be charred on the grill first, then cooled prior to putting into the salad.
Dessert is Spumoni ice cream, with fresh blackberries.

I'm off to a huge block party. I have made deviled eggs and pickled beets for the communal potluck,

pineapple upside-down cake for the cake walk, and duplicates of all three for the sub-party on my friends' porch.

My Italian grandmother always had it on hand. I loved it and always associate it with her.

My 4th is...

a burger, with cheese, layered with tomatoes, lettuce, red onion, mayo, mustard, basil leaves. and horseradish. Cheese is stilton and smoked gouda.

Did I mention the goose fat fries?

Oh my!

Ours went off without a hitch! Late lunch is the way to go. Feet up with iced tea, now. smileys/smile.gif

I pulled apart the chicken marinated in Ina Garten's barbeque sauce recipe (it was great--I worried when I read some reviews that said it was too vinegary, but it turned out perfectly, although we have a LOT left over), tented with foil and held it in the oven with a drizzle of more (clean!) marinade, and pulled it out when guests arrived. Had that with toasted wheat buns, fixings, salads, pickles, chips, etc.

I've never even attempted barbequed (oven-barbequed, at least) anything, and people loved this. So YAY. smileys/smile.gif

Finished with spiced plum cake topped with whipped fromage frais and blueberries. smileys/smile.gif

I love the memories of our grandmothers!!!

Of course, my German grandmother would not know what spumoni was, but still I was well fed.

Any other memories to share???

Agree... Late lunch is the way to go! Nice menu, great job! Don;t you love it when you try

something new and you pull it off!! Sounds like the timing was perfect!!
