Has anyone ever made "hummus" with almonds as the base?

Tried this yummy almond spread @ the Farmer's Market today - want to try my hand at making some, since I have most of the ingredients on hand, and they cost $4 per container.

It is very similar to hummus - they have many different flavors - the ones I liked best were Original, Chipotle, and Jalepeno Cilantro. So delicious!

I think one of the flavor components that really makes this for me are the Bragg Amino Acids - a liquid ingredient sort of along the lines of soy sauce in flavor. It is one of the ingredients in a tofu veggie sauce I love as well.

Original Almond Spread:

Expeller-pressed canola oil

Grapeseed Oil

Almonds

Lemon Juice

Water

Nutritional Yeast

Garlic

BRAGG

Sea Salt

Spices

I make a hummus replacing tahini with almond butter and it's delicious.

Almond Hummus:
Makes 6 cups

2 pounds, 13 ounces cooked chickpeas (1 can)
1 1/2 cups roasted almond butter (1/2 cup)
1/2 cup lemon juice (1 oz)
1 1/2 ounces garlic, chopped (1/2 oz)
1 1/2 tablespoons salt (1/2 T)
1 tablespoon grated lemon zest (lemon zest)
1/2 tablespoon red pepper flakes (to taste)
3/4 cup water (1/4 cup)

In food processor, purée all ingredients except water until smooth. Add water, process until blended. Refrigerate, covered.

Edit: The amounts in brackets are for a smaller amount of hummus.

I have had an almond "hummus" spread at a local farmers market . . .

and it was good. But, since I am trying to lose weight, I stick to regular hummus, as it can have a LOT fewer calories. I do use almond butter for sandwiches occasionally though!

Maybe I will try making a savory almond butter using my jarred stuff and seasoning like the spread above. It would be nice for a change of pace and probably pretty good tossed with hot veggies.

I tend to eat less of the almond hummus than the traditional one with chckpeas, which

is always in my refrigerator. Hummus has been a staple for me in weight loss and maintenance over the past 2.5 years.

The higher fat content of the almond hummus causes me to feel full sooner, so I'm thinking the kcals are going to be in the same neighborhood overall.

I guess I will let you know next week, if my pants still fit...
