My friend says she has made it twice and just loves it. I plan to make it today, so will post my review later.

No more buying whole cakes and watching them go bad. Or over eating because you don't want to throw it away. Now, you can have cake whenever you get that sweet tooth. One Mug is enough for two servings, unless you are really in the mood for chocolate. This isn't a recipe to be thrown out, you must try this. The Men out there can fix this and the teenagers will love it.... Can make it any time in 5 minutes, that is total time, mixing and microwaving...

5 MINUTE CHOCOLATE MUG CAKE

4 tablespoons Flour (plain flour, not self-raising)

4 tablespoons sugar

2 tablespoons Hershey's baking cocoa

Dash of vanilla

1 egg

3 tablespoons milk

3 tablespoons oil

3 tablespoons chocolate chips (optional) (OPTIONAL...are they KIDDING??!!)

1 large microwave safe coffee mug

Add dry ingredients to mug and mix well.

Add the vanilla, egg, milk and oil to mug and mix well. Add the chocolate chips (if using). Mix well.

Put your mug in the microwave and cook for 3

minutes at 1000 watts.

The cake will rise above the top of the mug,

but don't be alarmed, it will not run down sides of mug, but will drop back down when microwave stops.

Allow to cool a couple of minutes and tip out onto a plate if desired.

Let cool, serve with cool-whip or drizzle a spoonful of can frosting over top.

Super Easy!!

Two people sent me this recipe in an e-mail, so I took that as a sign. Omen is more like it.....

Sounds great, being 5 minutes away from a chocolate cake. And I didn't have much to lose, since the recipe was so small.

So I tried it. Sat in front of the microwave, and saw the thing rise like a souffle, about 3" above the mug! I was sure it was gonna overflow, but it didn't. It just went straight up, like a perfect souffle.

When it was done, it shrank back down to mug-level, so I grabbed two forks, to share it with hubby. We both took one bite, and promptly spit it out. YUK! Not enough sugar, weird spongy texture.

So hubby then says that he got another e-mail with the recipe, from someone who tweaked it and made it better.

New and improved version included 1 more tablespoon of sugar, plus a small amount of baking soda AND baking powder.

So I'm wondering why you would need to add more leavening, since it rose at least three inches above the top of the mug, but I followed the improved recipe anyway, against my better judgement.

(One of these days, my judgement will get the well deserved trust it has earned.)

This second attempt overflowed big time, so I carried the glass turntable, with the mug on it, to show hubby the "improved" recipe.

The original recipe might be fun for entertainment value, but it's certainly not a keeper.

YUK.

Thank you Sandi for saving us...

we appreciate the sacrifice you have made on behalf of the FK community.

I'll stick to pouring coffee into my mugs!

I made up some of these last year at Christmas for my co-workers kids. they had fun with them.

My recipe used a cake mix though.

HA!!!! I LAUGHED and LAUGHED... hubby thinks whoever wrote the recipe should be shot smileys/smile.gif

I agree with everything you said/did Sandi... my first attempt included the "optional" chocolate chips (never an option as far as I can see). It did indeed rise impressively, without overflowing, and I let it sit a minute in the mug before turning it out. It seemed under-done but we tried it anyway. Yuk.
Second attempt - I decided maybe the chips made it too heavy and decided to immerse my little boat motor in the batter to assure it blended better and maybe lightened it a bit. It had similar results to your adding the baking soda and baking powder. Results were NOT improved.

So.... recipe goes in the trash. Ah well, they can't all be winners!
