Dawn, it softens considerably when it thaws. If you love it as a crisp pickle you might be
disappointed. That's why I love the commercial "Talk of Texas" brand-it is very crisp. My best friend and I in the fifth grade would sit and eat an entire jar.
I can never find nice fresh okra anymore-even during the summer high season. I think someone has decided that it is a "Southernism" that we don't need anymore-kinda like you can NEVER find fresh black-eyed peas anyplace anymore except for the farmer's market. The grocery stores used to have huge big piles of them with big paper bags next to them because you bought so many to shell out a batch. I guess all the produce managers/buyers are Yankees. It also aggravates me that the grocery stores here always have California and Florida citrus when the Pecos Valley in Texas produces some of the finest citrus in the world.
